Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room (OR) is responsible for assessing patients, planning and implementing individualized care plans, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This role requires strong clinical judgment to recognize and report changes in patient condition, effective communication skills, and adherence to core measure responsibilities. The nurse will provide explanations and instructions to patients and their responsible persons, maintain accurate medical records, and participate in continuing education to uphold high standards of care.

Responsibilities:

• Assess patients to determine mental, physical, and spiritual needs.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Provide explanations and instructions to patients and responsible persons regarding care and procedures.
• Use nursing clinical judgment to recognize and report changes in patient condition promptly.
• Maintain complete and accurate medical records in compliance with healthcare standards.
• Contribute to a healthy workplace environment by managing conflict with professional communication skills.
• Meet Core Measure responsibilities related to patient care quality and safety.
• Participate actively in continuing education and professional development.
• Provide skilled nursing care in the Operating Room setting, following established protocols and procedures.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Illinois Registered Nurse license.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• At least 2 years of nursing experience.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate and complete medical documentation.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• ACLS certification.
• Experience or certification in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Cardiac Services, Emergency Room (ER), Recovery Room (PACU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), or related specialties.
• Specialty certifications such as OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) or NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
• Experience in cardiac catheterization, interventional imaging, or other specialized procedural areas.

Special Considerations:

• On-call duties as required.
• Strict no block scheduling policy; shift assignments cannot be guaranteed.
• Work environment includes high-acuity areas such as OR, ICU, ER, and specialty units.
• Must adhere to hospital policies regarding patient safety, infection control, and professional conduct.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of three 12-hour shifts per week.
• Shift assignments include day and night rotations as determined by department needs.
• Flexibility required to accommodate on-call responsibilities.
