Job Description

Build Your Career on Major Structural Steel Projects

If you’re a Project Engineer who wants more than a desk job and is looking to build a long-term career in structural steel, this is an opportunity to get involved in some of the West Coast’s most complex fabrication and erection projects.

A well-established leader in the structural steel industry , the company has built a strong reputation for delivering major commercial, infrastructure, and specialty steel projects throughout California and the Western United States.

This is an opportunity to work alongside experienced Project Managers, Engineers, detailers, fabricators, and field teams while gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle—from pre-construction and detailing through fabrication, delivery, and erection.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

Work on Projects That Matter

Gain hands-on exposure to large-scale structural steel projects where the work you support becomes part of major buildings, infrastructure, and landmark developments across the West Coast.

Learn From Industry Professionals

Work closely with experienced professionals who understand structural steel from the office to the fabrication shop and the jobsite. You’ll have the opportunity to develop both your technical and project-management skills.

Build Toward Your Next Career Step

This role is designed for someone who wants to grow. You’ll gain increasing responsibility across project coordination, technical problem-solving, scheduling, fabrication, and field operations—creating a strong foundation for advancement into Project Management.

Experience the Full Project Lifecycle

Collaborative Team Environment

Join a team that values safety, accountability, quality, communication, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support Project Managers with project planning, scheduling, coordination, and execution
  • Review structural drawings, specifications, revisions, and shop drawings
  • Coordinate with engineers, detailers, fabricators, general contractors, and field erection teams
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, drawing logs, and other project documentation
  • Support Design-Assist and pre-construction activities
  • Help identify and resolve technical and constructability issues
  • Track fabrication progress, material requirements, deliveries, and erection sequencing
  • Participate in project meetings and coordination efforts
  • Visit fabrication facilities and jobsites to gain firsthand understanding of project conditions
  • Assist with project schedules, cost tracking, documentation, and overall project performance
  • Support Lean Construction and continuous-improvement initiatives
  • Maintain accurate project records within digital project management systems
  • Support LEED documentation when applicable

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is technically capable, organized, curious, and eager to take on increasing responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, specifications, and shop drawings
  • Understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Willingness to visit fabrication facilities and jobsites throughout California as needed

Experience With

  • Procore or other construction/project management platforms
  • Bluebeam
  • Microsoft Office
  • Tekla EPM or similar steel project management systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related discipline
  • Experience working directly with structural steel fabrication or erection
  • Familiarity with AISC and AWS standards
  • Exposure to Design-Assist or pre-construction
  • Experience with Lean Construction or continuous improvement
  • Familiarity with Tekla, Revit, BIM, or other 3D modeling platforms

Where This Role Can Take You

For the right person, this is more than a Project Engineer position.

It’s an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of how structural steel projects are engineered, fabricated, coordinated, and erected while working alongside experienced professionals and building the skills necessary for long-term advancement.

If you’re looking for your next step and want to build the experience necessary to become a strong Project Manager in structural steel, this could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
